Prosperity entails much more than wealth; it reaches way beyond the financial and into the well-being and character of a nation and its institutions. It is about creating an environment where citizens can reach their full potential. A nation is prosperous when it has an open economy, an inclusive society, strong institutions, and empowered people, who are healthy, educated, and safe. Last year, the United States saw the largest overall prosperity gain as a nation. But at the state level, the story is much more nuanced. This new US index identifies in detail the policy challenges unique to each state.
