Since 2009, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has been targeting investment and technical assistance towards creative placemaking. 2017 marks the fourth cycle of NEA funding supporting projects that “Build Knowledge about Creative Placemaking,” which has sustained “Next Generation: The Future of Rural Arts and Culture Placemaking in Rural America” since our launch. The NEA’s focus on knowledge building has inspired research and fieldbuilding initiatives around the nation. In this Digital Exchange Webinar, panelists will explore four knowledge building initiatives, including a series of rural public art policy white papers developed with Americans for the Arts, Springboard for the Arts’ Creative Exchange platform and creative placemaking programs, the RUPRI/NEA Lab, and the NEA project “Creative Placemaking from the Community Up!”

About the Digital Exchange Webinars:
Roughly every three weeks, these Digital Exchanges will offer an opportunity for folks to come together and engage with leaders working across the dynamic range of fields that compose the foundation of rural creative placemaking. Each of these one hour Digital Exchanges will feature 2-4 voices from across the country, sharing specific themes, challenges, and opportunities we collectively encounter in this work. This Digital Exchange series is made possible through the support of the Rural Policy Research Institute, the National Endowment for the Arts and the McKnight Foundation, and is produced at the Outpost collaborative space in Winona, Minnesota, national headquarters of Art of the Rural.
