The National Advisory Committee on Rural Health and Human Services (NACRHHS) has released two new policy briefs with recommendations to the Secretary of U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) on ways to address pressing issues. The first, Alternative Models to Preserving Access to Emergency Care, examines alternatives for provision of emergency care and ancillary services in the light of the recent surge in rural hospital closures. The second, Families in Crisis: The Human Service Implications of Rural Opioid Misuse, discusses opioid use disorder in rural areas, which face great challenges given their limited health and social service infrastructure.
